Bioinformatics

The bioinformatics research team was formed from a joint venture between the Systems and Modeling research unit (Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) and the research unit of Animal Genomics (Faculty of Veterinarian Medicine). The group is based in the GIGA centre of applied genoproteomics of University of Liège.

The research is directed towards application, analysis, and development of data mining and modeling techniques to understand mechanisms and construct predictive models related to complex biological processes of relevance in medical, agronomical and environmental sciences. In particular, the focus is on the identification of biomarkers and diagnostic/prognostic/treatment response criteria from mixed data sources (mass-spectrometry based proteomics, gene expressions, SNP based genotyping, genetic and proteomic sequences, ontologies, images).
